Lydia Davis is supposed to meet Raymond Carver at a pub in fifteen minutes. She is in her bed, underneath blankets. She scratches a scab on her forehead and it breaks from her face. She can feel blood leaking into her eyebrow.
Lydia Davis gets out of bed and puts clothes on. Lydia Davis looks at herself in the full-length mirror. Lydia Davis thinks she looks good. Lydia Davis turns around and walks toward the bed. She stumbles on something. Lydia Davis just lets herself lose her balance so she can fall face-first onto her bed. Lydia Davis' face hits the wall behind her bed and the impact shocks her. Lydia Davis lies on the bed, holding her face. She looks up and a spot of blood is on the wall. She clutches her face. Then she goes to the pub and meets Raymond Carver.
